SENIOR financial analyst
(12-month contract with the possibility of extension)
The Ontario College of Trades (OCOT) seeks a Senior Financial Analyst to provide senior level accounting services and support the development and implementation of business operations related to OCOTs financial management systems and reporting capabilities.
Major Responsibilities:
Coordinate the development, implementation and maintenance of the functional aspects of financial systems and defining and implementing functional requirements for reporting, working with clients/ stakeholders to help define their needs and ensure their expectations in the area of financial systems are met.
Supervise the interfaces, maintenance and creation of the chart of accounts and reporting structures. Develop, implement and maintain financial policies and procedures within the framework of Trade Membership System in context of OCOTs financial system.
Develop new and evaluate existing budgeting and financial - planning and management policies, guidelines and controls in order to ensure prudent fiscal management and stewardship.
Provide risk mitigation strategies and plans, including recommendations on remedial action, training requirements and/or amendments to current practices.Planning and maintenance of a framework to review and audit financial services practices through systematic, disciplined and evidence-based approach.
In collaboration with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, take the lead in proactively educating and training staff with respect to interpretation and application of accounting methods and finance best practices.
Provide senior level financial analysis of the financial status of OCOT; identify and analyze variances, trends, and current/projected financial issues; and provide business advice/recommendations and solutions.
Lead/coordinate the journal entry processing tasks for unit financial staff, and validate financial transactions in accordance with accounting standards.
Participate in the preparation of the annual financial statements for OCOT in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Prepare and monitor audit plans for OCOT financial audits. Consolidate audit documentation requirements.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
Accounting designation (C.A., C.M.A, or C.G.A.) or MBA Finance.
Project Management Certification, degree/ diploma in Information Systems would be an asset.
3+ years experience in Financial Systems or Business Analysis.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, theories, practices and standards.
6+ years experience in finance/ accounting and reporting in various roles.
Expertise in financial applications (General Ledger systems, Consolidation and Reporting Software).
Experience documenting user requirements and performing process design and analysis.
Experience leading or contributing to systems implementations.
Knowledge of financial control applications and standards; budget development and allocation processes, and revenue/expenditure analysis and reporting methods.
Good project management, change management and issues management skills to lead/participate in complex projects/initiatives.
Knowledge of risk management strategies and framework.
Analytical and problem solving skills, consultation and verbal communication skills, superior written communication skills, conceptual and strategic thinking skills.
Software skills required: MS Office and QuickBooks. Advanced Excel and ERP based system experience is an asset.
Ability to work under minimum supervision.
Ability to work on extended hours when required.
